The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Your responsibilities include:
Management and strategic development of the department with approx. 200 employees in the nine divisions (Inorganic Trace Analysis, Biophotonics, Instrumental Analytics, Process Analytical Technology, Protein Analysis, Inorganic Reference Materials, Organic Trace and Food Analysis, Environmental Analysis and Chemical and Optical Sensing)
Development of concepts for research and development in the field of Analytical Sciences for the department
Participation in the Board of Directors at BAM in the Analytical Sciences focus area
Management and motivation of a qualified team of employees
Safeguarding interdisciplinary and overarching cooperation within BAM as well as with universities and research institutions, industry and politics
Cooperation with national and international scientific committees and organisations
Work in BAM's Board of Directors involves developing concepts and strategies to ensure BAM's future viability in the field of Analytical Sciences and actively shaping change processes. You will also be responsible for cross-departmental coordination in the Analytical Sciences focus area. Through your participation in national and international networks, you will contribute to the positioning of BAM as a departmental research institution.
It is intended to link the position with a professorship at a German university. The willingness to do so is assumed.
Scientific university degree in the field of chemistry, physics or materials science and PhD with an excellent result as well as habilitation or comparable scientific achievements arising from professional experience in a research field which is relevant to BAM: Analytical Sciences
International experience and several years professional experience in analytical chemistry
Experience in the strategic orientation and management of larger scientific areas as well as in the application and implementation of demanding research and development projects
Fundamental knowledge and understanding of management interrelationships in larger groups of people (professional and disciplinary management)
Excellent knowledge of science management is advantageous
Experience with communication at the interface of science, business and politics is advantageous
Team-oriented work ethic with good communication and Information behaviour and empathy / sensitivity and integration behaviour and gender equality
Initiative / commitment, willingness and ability to make decisions, goal-oriented and structured way of working, conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills and assertiveness / negotiating skills
Fluent command of German and English, written and spoken

Applicants who meet the requirements will generally receive a salary according to BesGr. B3 BBesO. In the case of applicants who do not meet the career requirements for federal officials at the time of recruitment, a corresponding non-tariff remuneration shall be agreed upon. The probation period in accordance with § 34 BLV and § 31 TVöD shall apply in this case.
