Equality
The university considers equality to be one of its key socio-political responsibilities and actively promotes an inclusive university culture that offers equal opportunities. Equality is based on an analysis of current inequalities and barriers and includes career development opportunities, awareness-raising initiatives and gender mainstreaming within the organisation. The aim is to be as non-discriminatory as possible for all members of the university – students and staff alike.
Sustainability
‘Climate, environment, sustainability’ is a strategic priority at the University of Vienna. The focus is on combining academic findings with concrete action and creating sustainable structures in research, teaching and studying, outreach and university management.
From climate protection to food sustainability, mobility or the responsible use of resources – sustainability is a university-wide mission at the University of Vienna. Our goal is to contribute to solving global questions through research, education and institutional transformation, as well as to open up sustainable perspectives for future generations.
Diversity
At the University of Vienna, we value diversity and actively encourage people from different backgrounds to participate in research, teaching and everyday life. Their perspectives and experiences not only enrich the academic community, they also contribute to a better understanding of the complex challenges society is facing and to developing lasting solutions. Thus, a diverse university culture benefits scientific excellence and social responsibility at the same time.
Work-Life Balance
Members of the University of Vienna balance a wide range of responsibilities in their daily lives – they are not only researchers, teachers, general staff members, or students, but also parents, caregivers, and socially or politically engaged members of society. And all of us are individuals who need time and space for rest, recovery, and personal development. The University of Vienna aims to support this balancing act.
The University of Vienna's model (developed by the Department of Organisational Culture and Equal Opportunities) shows that the societal context (legal frameworks, family models, gender roles, etc.) and the academic context (specific requirements such as mobility, high presence in scientific communities, etc.) also influence how work-life integration is lived in practice or can be lived.
Teleworking
The company-level agreement on working from home enables University of Vienna employees to work up to 10 days per month outside of the university premises, provided the respective role permits it. The specific implementation is based on an agreement between managers and employees.
