The Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

Tenure-Track Position as Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents (salary group W2)

at the Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychology. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a full professorship (W3) if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in the field of clinical psychology and psychotherapy for children and adolescents. The successful candidate will teach the subject in the degree programs BSc Psychology, MSc Psychology, and, in particular, MSc Psychology with a focus on clinical psychology and psychotherapy. Candidates must have a license to practice as a psychotherapist for children and adolescents or be in training that is nearing completion (currently at least PT1 completed and training fully completed by October 2026 at the latest).

In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to work in the psychotherapy outpatients’ clinic as well as participate in developing post-graduate training of psychotherapists.

We expect candidates to have a track record of outstanding, internationally visible publications, successful competitive third-party funding acquisition, and involvement in international research networks. In addition, their research should tie in with the key research priorities of the institute, the faculty, and FAU.

The Institute of Psychology places great emphasis on transparent and reproducible research and supports these goals by the use of open data, open material, and pre-registrations. Candidates for the professorship are therefore requested to explain in their cover letter how they have pursued these goals and how they intend to do so in the future.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor).

The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
