The School of Business and Economics invites applications for a

Professorship (W 3) in Business Administration, in particular Marketing

to be filled by 1 October 2026.

The School of Business and Economics at Philipps University pursues a data-driven decision making approach that serves as a cross-cutting theme across all research and teaching activities in the field of business administration. To further strengthen this focus, the Department of Business Administration within the School is currently seeking a candidate who represents the field of marketing in its entire breadth with a quantitative and empirical orientation. A particular emphasis is placed on digital marketing and data-intensive methods that enable evidence-based marketing decisions. The professorship will make a visible contribution to the School’s cross-cutting theme of data-driven decision making.

Tasks:

The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Marketing in research and teaching across its entire scope, with a particular emphasis on digital marketing and data-intensive methods. A quantitative and empirical research orientation is required. The candidate is expected to design, acquire, and conduct third-party funded research projects. Knowledge transfer between academia and practice, especially with regional small and medium-sized enterprises, is welcomed. The successful candidate will offer courses in the School’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes and will actively contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the teaching focus market-oriented management. The ability and willingness to teach courses in English is required. Active engagement in the further development of the School, including the topics mentioned above, is expected. In addition, active networking with relevant research groups in business administration and cooperation with other thematically related units of the University are required.

Profile:

The successful candidate must possess an outstanding academic qualification in the field of Marketing, demonstrated by a relevant doctoral degree and further academic achievements. We expect academic accomplishments with a particular focus on digital marketing and data-intensive methods. Experience in researching the role of artificial intelligence in marketing is desirable. In addition to the ability to conduct excellent academic research, which must be documented by outstanding publications in leading international journals, pedagogical aptitude and experience in successfully acquiring third-party funding are required. Cooperation in research (both national and international) as well as with business practice is expected.

The appointment requirements according to Sections 67 and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz - HessHG) apply. Philipps University attaches great importance to the intensive supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as doctoral candidates and expects its teaching staff to have a strong presence at the university.
