The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a
Full Professorship (W3) in “Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology” (f/m/d)
to be filled from April 1, 2027.
The holder of the position will represent the entire spectrum of Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology in both research and teaching. In research, the W3 Professorship in Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology is expected to actively contribute to the faculty’s research focus “Mannheim Comprehensive Tumor Campus/MCTC” and the established research areas of the Department of Medicine II, with its focus on gastroenterology, hepatology, infectious diseases, and nutritional medicine, and to further expand collaboration with partners at the EMBL and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. The future holder of the position will be required to actively participate in existing research networks, secure additional third-party funded projects, and actively contribute to the establishment of new collaborative research projects. As part of the MaReCuM model study program, the W3 professorship will be integrated into the teaching programmes on the topic of Translational Gastrointestinal Oncology.
Prerequisites for application include a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate, and pedagogical eligibility, which is usually demonstrated by experience in teaching. In addition, applicants must provide evidence of additional scientific achievements (a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or habilitation-equivalent qualifications) in accordance with Section 47 (2) of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Applications from scientists and medical professionals are equally welcome. Internationally visible, excellent achievements in research and teaching, relevant management experience, successful acquisition of third-party funding, and teaching skills are expected, as well as cooperation and leadership skills and commitment to academic self-governance.
The position is a tenured post. Upon fulfilment of the general requirements under civil service law and budgetary law, the appointment to the professorship will usually be made directly on the basis of a lifetime civil servant status. Should the future professor perform patient care duties at the University Hospital, he/she will be generally employed permanently under private law in accordance with Section 49 (2a) of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.
