The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a
Full Professorship (W3) for “Proteomics and Translational Biomarkers” (f/m/d)
to be filled for the first time as soon as possible.
The professorship will represent the field of “Proteomics and Translational Biomarkers” in both research and teaching. The W3 professorship for “Proteomics and Translational Biomarkers” is to be established as an independent department within the Institute of Clinical Chemistry (IKC) and will also head the Proteomics Core Facility of the Core Facility Platform Mannheim (CFPM). The successful candidate is expected to play an active role in establishing the analytical platform of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Control (CCDC).
We are seeking a candidate who combines top-notch, internationally recognized research with expertise in mass spectrometry and proteomic analysis, including high-throughput methods. Additional expertise in the identification of post-translational modifications, lipid and metabolite analysis, or in spatial proteomics and metabolomics is desirable. In terms of research, active participation in one or more of the faculty’s research priorities is required, particularly in the fields of vascular biology and medicine, immunology, preventive medicine, and medical technology. Participation in collaborative vascular and immunological research projects (e.g., CRC 1366, RTG 2727) as well as in other collaborative projects of the faculty and of Heidelberg University is strongly encouraged. In terms of teaching, the candidate is expected to contribute to the design and further development of courses within the MaReCuM model degree program.
Prerequisites for application are a completed university degree in natural sciences or medicine, a qualified doctoral degree, and pedagogical eligibility, which is usually proven by teaching experience. Furthermore, additional scientific achievements (a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or habilitation-equivalent qualifications) in accordance with article 47 (2) of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Internationally renowned excellence in research and teaching, leadership experience, a successful track record in acquisition of extramural funding, and pedagogical expertise are expected, as well as managerial skills and collaborative competence, and a commitment towards academic self-governance. Board certification in clinical chemistry or laboratory medicine is desirable, but it is not a prerequisite for appointment.
The position is tenured. Upon fulfilment of the general requirements under civil service law and budgetary law, the appointment to the professorship will usually be made directly on the basis of a lifetime tenured civil servant status. If the prospective appointee is to perform duties related to patient care, a permanent employment contract under private law is usually concluded under article 49 (2) of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. If applicable, an additional contract is also concluded with Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg - UK Mannheim GmbH.
