Full Professor of Health Management and Health Care Research (salary group W3)
at the School of Business, Economics and Society. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.
We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in the field. The professorship will be assigned to the Institute of Management and will cover the topics of health management and health care research, with a focus on business administration. The faculty expects in-depth research aligned with our key research priorities using methods from empirical social research. The professor will be expected to collaborate with existing professorships at the Institute of Management at the School of Business, Economics and Society and at other institutes and faculties, in particular in the context of the master’s degree program in Health Management and Health Economics (MiGG) and the master’s degree program for working professionals Master of Health Business Administration (MHBA), taught in German. The professor will also be expected to teach students at the Faculty of Medicine. The degree program for working professionals requires a higher than average degree of commitment involving work at weekends and in the evening. The professor will also be expected to become actively involved in encouraging the internationalization of degree programs at FAU. The successful candidate ought to have a background in business and economics, and preferably also in medicine, with an in-depth fundamental knowledge of medicine of at least master’s level being an essential requirement. Evidence of the quality of academic work to date in the area of health management and health care research should be provided by outstanding publications in relevant journals. In addition, the applicant should play an active role in international networks and committees.
The professor will be expected to cover research and teaching (bachelor’s and master’s degree programs) in the area of health management and health care research. Research at the professorship will cover health management and health care research and will ideally focus on several of the following aspects:
- Health care management (managed care) aimed at shaping the health care system by using monetary (e.g., pay-for-performance) and non-monetary (e.g., quality transparency) incentive systems
- Regional health care research (using register data or primary data from regional health care)
- Health economics evaluations
- Research into preferences regarding health care structures and services (patients and doctors) (medical decision-making)
The professor is expected to participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with other disciplines at the university, with extramural research institutions, and with industry.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor).
The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred.
