Full Professor of Experimental Physics (W3) Universität Bayreuth
The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Mathematics, Physics & Computer Science at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Experimental Physics
at salary grade W3 to commence on 1 April 2027.
We are seeking an academically outstanding candidate with international standing and broad expertise in the field of soft matter spectroscopy or low-dimensional systems. We are looking for an independent, pioneering and forward-looking research concept for investigating electronic structure using spectroscopic methods in the broadest sense (e.g. optical spectroscopy, photoemission spectroscopy, impedance spectroscopy, force spectroscopy, dielectric spectroscopy). In doing so, both the systems investigated and the methods employed should meaningfully complement the existing spectrum of the Physics Department and enable and strengthen collaborations within and beyond the department.
In teaching, the subject of experimental physics should be represented in its full breadth in the bachelor’s, master’s, and teacher training programmes in physics, as well as in other natural science and engineering programmes. The ability to teach in English and, after two years at the latest, also in German is expected. Adaptability and a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the University of Bayreuth’s key research areas, such as the International Research Training Group 2818 OPTEXC, are required. A willingness to play an active and formative role in shaping academic self-governance is also desirable.
The general administrative requirements for hiring professors at universities in Bavaria apply. A complete description of the vacancy can be found at www.uni-bayreuth.de/en (University / Work at the University / Job Vacancies).
Applications (CV including a list of publications, list of courses taught and experience obtaining external funding in the past 10 years, as well as copies of certificates and diplomas) are to be addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics & Computer Science Prof. Dr. Axel Enders and submitted via https://uni-bayreuth.berufungsportal.de by 31 May 2026. Applicants are welcome to direct questions and requests for further information to the Dean at dekanat.mpi@uni-bayreuth.de. Application documents will be deleted in accordance with data protection law following the conclusion of the appointment process.
