The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Full Professor of Human Genetics (salary group W3)
at the Institute of Human Genetics. This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by April 1, 2027.
We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in human genetics. The professor will be expected to represent the field in research, teaching, and patient care, and will also be appointed as the head of the Institute of Human Genetics at Uniklinikum Erlangen. The independent Department of Stem Cell Biology is affiliated with this institute.
The successful candidate will have a wide range of expertise and several years of management experience in clinical practice and academia, as well as skills in human resource and business management. We expect close collaboration with the various institutes and departments at Uniklinikum Erlangen, both in research and clinical care. The institute provides patient care through its outpatient clinic and operates the Core Unit for Next-Generation Sequencing within the Faculty of Medicine. Uniklinikum Erlangen is an authorized provider for oncological and rare diseases within the genome sequencing model project under Section 64e of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V).
The professor’s research focus ought to strengthen at least one of the existing key research priorities at the faculty in the area of hereditary diseases. The professor will be required to play an active role in the Erlangen Center for Rare Diseases (ZSEER) and in the Center for Personalized Medicine (ZPM). We expect the professor to actively contribute to the Faculty of Medicine’s research associations, including DFG-funded collaborative research centers and research training groups as well as the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research, and student teaching. The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programs in Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (B.Sc. and M.Sc.), Medical Process Management, Midwifery Science and Logopedics, as well as interdisciplinary degree programs in Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine and specialist certification in human genetics.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
