The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Full Professor of Physiology (Systems Physiology) (salary group W3)
at the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Physiology. This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by March 1, 2028. The professorship includes the position of Director of the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Physiology.
We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in research and teaching in the field of physiology. The professorship is intended to strengthen the faculty’s focus on renal and cardiovascular research. Candidates are expected to have an outstanding research record in systems physiology, preferably with a focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of renal and/or cardiovascular physiology. Collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine’s other research priorities is desired.
In addition, the professorship should take an active role in shaping existing research networks and initiate the development of new interdisciplinary research consortia. Scientific excellence must be evidenced by internationally visible and high-quality publications as well as by repeated successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding. Candidates are also expected to have proven experience of management positions in research, such as several years of experience in leading research groups or comparable research structures.
In teaching, candidates are expected to have the relevant experience and demonstrate innovative concepts in teaching the subject of systems physiology in the curriculum. Teaching is conducted mainly in German in the degree programs in Medicine, Dentistry, and Molecular Medicine.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor). Evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of physiology and/or certification as a specialist physiologist is desired.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
