The Department of Social Work, Health and Media has a particularly strong research focus together with an interdisciplinary and practical orientation and offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate Bachelor’s and consecutive Master's study programmes.

Your new challenge

• You will be responsible for teaching, continuing education and research with a specific application orientation in the following subject areas:
  • Digital journalism
  • Digital innovations and use of AI in journalism
• There will be a particular focus on scientifically substantiated and practically-oriented teaching. In the courses on the BA and MA programs in Journalism, it will be especially important to you to convey the importance of digital journalism, innovations and the use of AI in an practice-oriented manner.
• You will be committed to strengthening the specialist profile of the Department, will work on an interdisciplinary basis in the context of cross-departmental cooperation primarily at the Magdeburg campus and will be involved in the development of the range of international programmes offered.
• We expect you to successfully develop areas of research emphasis in Digital Journalism, Digital Innovations and Use of AI in Journalism and, if the relevant conditions are met, to participate in our Doctoral Centre for Social, Health and Economic Sciences. • It goes without saying that you will be committed to technology and knowledge transfer and cooperation with regional and national stakeholders as well as to contributing to the development of the university.
• Moreover, it is important to us that you be involved in academic self-governance (official language German).

What you offer

You are a good fit for us if you are enthusiastic about teaching and research activities and you meet the conditions of appointment as set out in § 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act. For the advertised professorship, these criteria are as follows:

• You will have successfully completed a university degree, preferably in the areas of Journalism, Communication Studies, Media Studies or another Humanities or Social Science discipline.
• You will have a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally be demonstrated by a doctorate, preferably in the fields of Journalism, Communication Studies, Media Studies or another Humanities or Social Science subjects.
• You will have pedagogic experience of working in universities or comparable teaching situations. You will be familiar with modern teaching methods in both face-to-face and online formats.
• You will be able to demonstrate particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in the areas of activity/subjects of Digital Journalism and Digital Innovations in Journalism. Publications in the area of appointment are highly desirable. You will have accomplished these in professional practice of at least three years’ duration outside of the higher education sector.
• You will have experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and the management of research projects. Equally, international experience is highly desirable.
• You will have both German and English language skills that enable you to communicate confidently in teaching and research and in everyday life at a German-speaking university.
• Your profile will be completed by the ability to communicate confidently, empathy, leadership experience and team skills.
