Responsibilities
This tenure-track position at the Department of Psychology involves contributing to research, teaching, and practice within the psychology program and the planned interuniversity Master’s program in Psychotherapy.
The main research areas should lie in psychotherapeutic concepts and methods in the area of Systemic Psychotherapy that are applied across the lifespan in various healthcare settings. Close and collaborative cooperation is expected with the departments, research groups, and organizational units of the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Innsbruck involved in the Master’s program in Psychotherapy, with the departments of the Institute of Psychology, and with other relevant departments, such as educational sciences.
The successful candidate is also expected to establish and further develop regional, national, and international collaborations in the field of Systemic Psychotherapy in Innsbruck, as well as to participate in the interdisciplinary research program ‘Health and prevention across the lifespan’ and joint research projects (e.g. with the Innsbruck Doctoral College (IDC) ‘Biopsychosocial aspects of health and prevention’).
The teaching responsibilities cover the field of Systemic Psychotherapy. This includes teaching courses mainly in the Master’s program in Psychotherapy, as well as the Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD program in Psychology, and supervising students, including (co-) supervising theses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to academic self-governance and committee work.
Employment requirements include
  1. A finished, relevant or related university degree with a doctorate / PhD in Psychology (or a related discipline) or a degree in Human Medicine with a focus on a psychotherapeutic topic.
  2. Completed psychotherapy training in systemic psychotherapy according to the Austrian Psychotherapy Act. For applicants from abroad, equivalence may need to be assessed.
  3. Several years of experience in psychotherapeutic research and teaching, as well as proven experience in the psychotherapeutic treatment of patients of various age groups after the dissertation/PhD.
  4. Specific research experience and publications in renowned (international) peer-reviewed journals (in relation to academic age and career breaks due to care responsibilities)
  5. preferably, one semester of relevant mobility experience during or after the doctorate/PhD (e.g., research stays of several months, not an Erasmus stay as a student)
  6. Initial experience in acquiring and, ideally, managing external/third-party funding
  7. Experience in the postgraduate training of psychotherapists with a focus on Systemic Psychotherapy and expertise in the supervision of psychotherapists is desirable
  8. German language skills at C2 level or the willingness to acquire them within a reasonable timeframe
  9. Social competence, for example, a cooperative leadership style, ability to cooperate and work in a team, and mentoring competence.
Description of the position
A tenure-track position at the University of Innsbruck enables an academic career up to a permanent university professorship.
The successful applicant concludes a 6-year fixed-term employment contract on the basis of the ‘Angestelltengesetz’ (Employees Act) with a workload of 100%) and at the same time a ‘qualification agreement’ in accordance with § 27 of the ‘Kollektivvertrag’ (Austrian Collective Labour Agreement for university employees) and starts his/her work as an "assistant professor".
Upon successful completion of the ‘Qualification Agreement’ requirements, the position will be converted to a tenured role, and the candidate will be promoted to Associate Professor.
Thereafter, a full professorship under § 99 (4) of the ‘Universitätsgesetz’ (Austrian University Act) may be opened, for which the Associate Professor will be eligible to apply.

In line with the ‘Kollektivvertrag’ (Austrian Collective Labor Agreement for university personnel) Researchers under a ‘Qualification Agreement’ are classified in remuneration group A2, with an initial salary of €5.904,00 per month (paid 14 times annually). Upon successful completion of the Agreement, the salary increases to €6.389,50 per month (14 installments).
