The Institut of Computer Science is looking to hire a Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist (Akadem. Rat*Rätin auf Probe/Lebenszeit) in Embedded AI and Ubiquitous Computing (m/f/d)- Start-date: The earliest possible time/date
- Full-time position
The successful candidate will lead and conduct research in several aspects of Embedded Artificial Intelligence (AI), Ubiquitous Computing, and IoT, as well as support education at bachelor, master, and Ph.D. level in Embedded AI. Research may cover, e.g., machine learning model optimisation for resource-aware computing, algorithms for context awareness, expert-data model integration, sensor and actuator systems, and ultra-low power processing. The research activities shall be connected to applications, including, but not limited to, biomedicine, digital health, space, automation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct top-level research in advanced topics of Embedded AI and ultra-low power processing.
- Contribute to university education in Embedded AI at bachelor and master level.
- Acquire research funding through regional, national, and EU sources.
- Initiate and actively engage in multidisciplinary research collaborations at the university, university medical centre, and Hahn-Schickard.
- Lead scientific publication and dissemination activities in top-tier academic journals and conferences.
- Oversee and support PhD students in their academic progress.
- Further develop scientific, technical, and leadership skills through training on-the-job and a personal programme.
- Teaching according to the Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung Baden-Württemberg
We welcome who demonstrate strong research and leadership skills with a focus on/interest in embedded AI and ubiquitous computing. Successful candidates will have a master’s degree and should have a Ph.D. degree in computer science, electrical/computer/biomedical engineering, or similar. Academic track record shall be identifiable from scientific publications, patent filings, funding acquisition, and teaching experience. More specifically, one or more of the following technical skill sets are sought:
- Embedded system design, including cross-compiling, hardware accelerators, and system simulations
- Efficient machine learning, including quantisation, pruning, low-rank factorisation, knowledge distillation
- Timeseries data analysis and signal processing
- Embedded neural networks and embedded deployment frameworks, including Tensorflow, Pytorch, TFLite, ONNX, etc.
- Proficiency in modern data inference tools, i.e. Python, and programming languages, including C, C++.
- Knowledge of wearables and digital health is a plus
About the Intelligent Embedded Systems Lab
The Intelligent Embedded Systems Lab in cooperation with Hahn-Schickard offers an open-minded, multidisciplinary, and multicultural working environment with an inspiring bandwidth of research activities, spanning topics in advanced data science, biomedical signal processing, 3D computer modelling, and embedded systems engineering. We collaborate with various medical institutes and leading industrial/business partners as well as support spin-offs in translating research into applications. Our lab members have various educational backgrounds, including but not limited to computer science, medical engineering, electrical engineering, and embedded systems. We operate state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, including electronics development, additive manufacturing, and photometric systems, and support validation studies. Moreover, we operate a dedicated computing infrastructure for simulations and testing of methods and algorithms.
