The newly funded Cluster of Excellence TERRA – "Terrestrial Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World" is an interdisciplinary research initiative involving geoscientists, biologists, and computer scientists from the Universities of Tübingen and Hohenheim, as well as the Senckenberg Institute for Biodiversity and Earth System Research in Frankfurt. The cluster investigates how interactions between the living and non-living world shape global change – from individual organisms to the entire globe – in the geological past, present, and future. The research initiative will commence on January 1, 2026, and is currently funded until December 31, 2032. A central component of the initiative is the establishment and investigation of a long-term experiment on geo-biosphere interactions as part of the research platform “Diversitorium”.
As part of the Cluster of Excellence TERRA, the University of Hohenheim, together with the Department of Plant Ecology, is looking for a:
Scientific Coordinator (f/m/d) of a Long-Term Experiment on Geo-Biosphere Interactions
Fixed-term until 31 December 2032, Full-time (100%),
Pay Grade E13 TV-L
Your Responsibilities
- Organizing and coordinating research activities within the research initiative, with a focus on the Diversitorium.
- Planning and organizing experiments within the TERRA core experiment, which involves experimental manipulation and investigation of geo-biosphere interactions.
- Scientific oversight of the experimental facility.
- Conducting independent research on geo-biosphere interactions within the research initiative.
- Collaborating with and training researchers involved in TERRA experimental research projects.
- Doctorate (Ph.D.) in ecology, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
- Experience in the design and implementation of ecological field experiments.
- Excellent command of German and English.
- Proficient in MS Office, R, and scientific databases.
- Resilience and ability to work in a team.
- Class B driving license.
