The Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University is offering the following position (starting at the earliest possible date):

Professorship (W3)
Theoretical Particle Physics

Our profile

TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.

The Department of Physics combines excellent research in the focus areas of particle physics, condensed matter physics, atomic / molecular and optical physics and medical physics with a modern and future-oriented teaching concept. It maintains national and international networks in both research and teaching and is successful in attracting third-party funding.

Profile of the professorship

You represent the area theoretical particle physics with emphasis on research in particle phenomenology and further develop this at a top international level. In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside the TU Dortmund University and in the Cluster of Excellence “Color meets Flavor” and are committed to promoting early-career researchers. Additionally, you participate appropriately in the teaching activities of the department.

Your qualifications

You have obtained a doctorate in physics or a related field with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You have demonstrated your research excellence in the field covered by the professorship through continuous international publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals and had success in the acquisition of third-party funding. With your research profile you have gained high international visibility. You have a broad research portfolio in particle phenomenology with contributions in more than a single subfield of theoretical physics. Relevant, but not exclusive or exhaustive, research areas entail: physics beyond the standard model relevant for current and future-planned experiments, precision in quark- and/or lepton-flavor phenomenology and CP violation, effective field theories for colliders and beyond, precision observables in high-energy colliders. Beyond this, you have the potential for scientific collaborations and contributions to the Cluster of Excellence “Color meets Flavor” as well as for scientific cooperations with the theoretical and experimental particle-physics groups in the department.

Additionally, you have the potential for teaching excellence and are willing to teach in English and German in the medium term. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37 of the North Rhine- Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) apply.

Attractive environment

We offer an excellent academic environment and attractive cooperation opportunities with renowned international, national, and regional partners. The metropolitan Ruhr Area with the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) guarantees short distances to a diversity of partners from science and industry. With our Dual Career Service, we support your partner in finding professional opportunities in the region, if desired. We will be happy to provide information about housing and living in Dortmund and help you find childcare options. If you are coming to us from abroad, our Welcome Service will support you upon your arrival in Germany.

Diversity welcome

A central goal of TU Dortmund University is to promote diversity and equal opportunities. We strive to significantly increase the percentage of women in research and teaching and therefore welcome applications from female academics. We give preference to severely disabled applicants if their qualifications meet the requirements. We support the compatibility of family and career and promote gender equality in academia and research.

Your application

lf you are interested in the position, please submit your application including a research statement (max. 4 pages) and a teaching concept (max. 2 pages) by 27.01.2026 via our application portal.
All application documents shall be submitted in English.
