The Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE – Sustainable
Architecture for Finance in Europe – based in Frankfurt am Main
promotes research and knowledge transfer in policy and society on
all aspects related to the structure and functioning of the financial
system. Its goal is to contribute to the strengthening of a sustainable
and resilient financial system that fosters innovation and serves the
needs of the economy and society. This objective is pursued, among
other things, through the project “Financial and Corporate Research
from a Long-Term Perspective: Digitization of Historical Collections
of German Financial Market and Corporate Data”, funded by the
Academy of the Sciences and Literature | Mainz and running from
2025 – 2042. The academy professorship advertised here is part of
this project. SAFE brings together researchers from the fields of
economics, law, and political science.
As part of a joint appointment process, SAFE and the Faculty of Economics and Business at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main are seeking to fill the following position in civil servant or employee status at the earliest possible date: furt am Main invite applications for the following position as civil servant or public employee starting at the earliest possible dateProfessorship (W1 with Tenure Track)
This is a tenure-track position for an initial six-year term. If tenure is
approved at the end of the term, the position will be made permanent
and promotion to the rank of Full Professor (W2) will be granted. This
position is open to individuals in the early stages of their academic
career. A key responsibility of the successful candidate will be to
lead and further develop the academy project in the medium to long
term.
We are looking for an economist with a strong focus on excellent research in financial and economic history. The candidate should have relevant expertise in the application and development of modern methods in data science and machine learning, especially with unstructured data. A good command of the German language is essential due to the focus of the academy project. Initial experience in acquiring third-party funding and managing projects with external partners is advantageous.
We expect participation in the undergraduate and graduate teaching programs as well as in structured doctoral training. Teaching for doctoral students is conducted in English; BSc or MSc courses may be taught in either German or English. The teaching load is two hours per week per semester.
The prerequisite for appointment is a relevant doctorate in Economics or Business as well as excellent performance in research and teaching, documented by corresponding publications and teaching evaluations. The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67, 68, and 70 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
