WHAT TO EXPECT
You will teach the fundamentals and advanced applications of building exploration and urban mining, with the aim of extracting secondary raw materials within the department’s bachelor’s and master’s programmes.This includes, among other things, the exploration of buildings and building components in building construction and civil engineering for harmful substances and recyclable materials in the context of refurbishment or selective demolition. The objective in this context is the non-toxic and efficient use of the material flows obtained from refurbishment and demolition.
In addition to your commitment to the integration of this subject area in the department and the further development of teaching and research in this field, you will also be willing to provide support in basic subjects such as construction chemistry and to contribute to the degree programme in “Construction in Existing Contexts”.
Your input is required in application-oriented research, e.g. at the Institute for Infrastructure · Water · Resources · Environment (IWARU).
Last but not least, you will take on responsibilities in the self-government of the department and the university, and make a constructive contribution to cooperative interaction at the department.
YOUR BACKGROUND
Your expertise is based on a degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering or science subject, coupled with an in-depth understanding of resource management in construction and a recognised doctorate.Ideally, you will have several years’ professional experience in planning and carrying out exploration work as part of refurbishment and/or demolition projects.
Ideally, you will also have scientific knowledge in the above field, and possibly in the field of the ecological and economic assessment of building materials.
You are keen to support the university’s internationalisation process by delivering courses in English, and ideally have experience teaching in higher education.
Ideally, experience in applying for research projects and an extensive network of practice partners round off your profile.

Advanced knowledge of German is essential for this position.
