The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.
The Faculty of Management and Economics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, at the Sales Management Department (SMD), invites applications for the position of a

PROFESSOR W3 OR W1 WITH TENURE TRACK W3 IN SALES MANAGEMENT (M/F/D)

commencing at earliest possible date.

The holder of the position will represent the subject of Sales Management in research and teaching.

The future holder of the chair will represent the subject in research and teaching (BSc and MSc) with broad expertise and high didactical competence. The professor will be part of the Sales Management Department and should help to further extent its international reputation in research and teaching. We welcome candidates with a quantitative-empirical research focus on sales management and an excellent research record. We expect the candidate to work in research areas that are strongly linked with research of the Sales Management Department at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, e.g., in the areas of B2B sales, sales organization, sales strategy, personal selling, price setting and price negotiation in sales as well as sales force compensation, sales force management and sales leadership.

The future chair holder must fully cover the teaching in the field of Sales Management and General Management in German and English in the bachelor and master study programs offered by the faculty. If the required German language skills are not fully available when taking up the position, it is expected that the candidate will prove his or her ability within 2 years.

The position W1 tenure track W3 will be filled with a tenure track for the professorship to W3. If the evaluation is positive, the professorship will be in an appropriately simplified procedure without a new announcement. The criteria for evaluating tenure track professorships are based on the valid regulations for the interim and final evaluation of tenure track professorships at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (https://uni.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/en/tenure-track). The hiring requirements for tenure track professorships are available at https://www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/en/conditions-governing-tenure-trackprofessorships.

An excellent scientific qualification is required, usually proven by a PhD of outstanding quality. Evidence of special suitability for academic teaching is just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement.

For a direct employment in the position of a W3-professorship, a positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement as well as proof of academic teaching skills are required.

The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NRW.

The willingness to participate in academic self-administration is also required.

We further expect:
  • strong commitment in teaching on bachelor and master levels
  • readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research
  • willingness and proven ability to attract (significant, in case of W3) third-party funding
  • international networking.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.

Complete applications (letter of application, CV, academic career, list of publications, proof of teaching experience, teaching record, list of third-party funds obtained, copies of certificates and concepts with the ideas for future research and teaching (a maximum of two pages each) of the professorship) should be sent no later than 2025-08-31 via our online application portal.

Contact for further information: Prof. Dr. Martin Nienhaus, Tel: +49 234 32-19680.
