Digital twins are considered a key technology of Industry 4.0. They make it possible to represent complex supply chains transparently, increase their resilience, and track sustainability goals in measurable ways. In the DINGOL research project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Conet, we are developing - together with the University of Applied Sciences Reutlingen - an open framework for Digital Supply Chain Twins (DSCT). This provides the foundation for companies to simulate and optimize supply chains in real time and align them with sustainability criteria.

We are looking to recruit a
Fully funded PhD position in supply chain simulation (d/m/f)
in the Department of Management Sciences starting on 1 January 2026 at our Sankt Augustin campus.Digital twins are considered a key technology of Industry 4.0. They make it possible to represent complex supply chains transparently, increase their resilience, and track sustainability goals in measurable ways. In the DINGOL research project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Conet, we are developing - together with the University of Applied Sciences Reutlingen - an open framework for Digital Supply Chain Twins (DSCT). This provides the foundation for companies to simulate and optimize supply chains in real time and align them with sustainability criteria.
The successful applicant will
- participate in an innovative, publicly funded research project.
- develop a digital twin for supply chains in cooperation with university and corporate partners.
- present research results at national and international conferences.
- contribute to scientific publications (as part of a cooperative doctorate).
- supervise students within the scope of the project.
- hold an above average university degree in Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- have initial experience in software development and ideally in supply chain management.
- demonstrate analytical thinking, enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration, and work independently.
- have proficiency in English (C1-level) and, ideally, German, both spoken and written.
- are willing and motivated to pursue a doctorate (PhD).
- An exciting and varied job in a modern environment, remunerated according to Remuneration Group 13 TV-L and limited until 30 June 2029. The position is a full-time position and is also suitable for part-time work.
- Reliability: Payment in accordance with the tariff salary agreement and a company pension scheme give you financial security now and in the future. You are entitled to 30 days annual leave and 24 December, 31 December and Carnival Monday are also days off.
