Full Professor of
Macromolecular Chemistry
at salary grade W3 to commence on or after 1 October 2027. This is a permanent civil service position.
The successful candidate will be expected to represent the full breadth of the discipline of macromolecular chemistry and to strengthen the University of Bayreuth’s profile in the field of polymer research. Candidates are expected to have an internationally recognized and independent research profile, demonstrated by a record of third party funding and publications, as well as expertise in one or more of the following areas: sustainable polymer materials, the circular economy and recycling, reaction automation, polymers for additive manufacturing, and the synthesis and application of high-performance polymers.
As part of the Polymers and Interfaces research network, the successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely with research groups from the fields of chemistry, engineering, and physics; to play an active role in interdisciplinary institutes such as the Bavarian Polymer Institute (BPI), the Bayreuth Institute for Macromolecular Research, and Neue Materialien Bayreuth GmbH; and to contribute actively to existing collaborative research projects such as the SFB 1585 MultiTrans and the GRK 3040 COIN. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to be willing to contribute to future collaborative research projects, to play a key role in shaping new interdisciplinary collaborative research, and to initiate cooperative research projects. Experience in coordinating and leading collaborative research programmes is an advantage. In teaching, the professorship is expected to cover the full breadth of macromolecular chemistry and to teach courses in the bachelor’s programmes in chemistry (including the planned English-language bachelor’s programme) as well as in the master’s programmes in chemistry, in particular the programme M.Sc. Polymer Science. Active involvement in teaching for non-major students and in the Polymer Science doctoral programme is also expected. The future incumbent should contribute to the international orientation of the degree programmes. Applicants must be able to teach in English; international candidates are expected to be willing and able to teach in German within a reasonable period after appointment.
