Applying at the Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies

Students can apply to the regular worldwide calls for applications to the BSRT once or twice a year. Postdocs apply with their own research project.

Application for the Doctoral program of the BSRT

Applicants have to complete an online application form at BSRT. The application period is published on the website of the BSRT. Only applications in English will be accepted.

Applicants have to complete an online application form and select three research projects which they would be interested in joining. Based on their scientific qualifications, motivation and references, 20 to 30 applicants are invited to Berlin for further assessment. At the Assessment Centre applicants have to present their current research and answer questions from faculty members and fellow applicants. All applicants are interviewed by the steering committee of the school acting as an independent panel to judge and evaluate the suitability of the candidates. Personal interviews are also arranged between the applicants and the faculty members in whom they had expressed an interest. At the end of this multi-day event, faculty members list their preferred PhD candidates whilst the applicants select their preferred research groups and supervisors.

Requirements

Students interested in the biological or biochemical track apply for a doctoral project on the fields of stem cell biology, signalling pathways or immunology. Students interested in the engineering track apply for a doctoral project on the fields of mechano-biology, biomechanics, biomaterial sciences or bio-mimetic materials. Applicants must have a Master's degree, a german Diploma or an equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, physics, chemistry, engineering or veterinary medicine. Applicants with a Master's degree from a "Fachhochschule" should have a grade below 1.5. It is not necessary to hold the degree at the time of application. However, students must have obtained the degree before the enrolment.

Application for the Postdoc program of the BSRT

The BSRT seeks to attract creative young scientists from all over the world with original and innovative ideas who plan to do their first postdoc project with their own research concept within the scientific focus areas of the BSRT. The candidates will have to submit a short draft proposal in order to apply for participation in the BSRT Postdoc Career Academy. The BSRT Postdoc Career Academy offers lectures, seminars and many opportunities to establish connections with the BSRT faculty members and invited international guest speakers who will help the candidates in the further development of their project proposals and discuss options for their career paths. After the BSRT Postdoc Career Academy candidates are invited to submit their final proposal to apply for the BSRT Postdoc Fellowship. The application period is published on the website of the BSRT.
