The Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science invites applications for a
W3 Professorship in Training Science
as of April 1st, 2027. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
You represent the field of training science in its full scope in both research and teaching.
Your research profile includes both basic and applied aspects. An experimental orientation of your research is expected. The Institute of Sports Science at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) aims to establish a research focus at the interface between sports science and neuroscience, with links to experimental psychology. You will contribute to the development of this focus and play a leading role in shaping it with regard to the learning and adaptation of complex movement sequences.
Your research profile should also demonstrate potential for collaborative research projects within the faculty, across faculties, and with external partners. Your research should also be compatible with the Cluster of Excellence – The Adaptive Mind (TAM).
Your teaching load is 8 semester hours per week (SWS). You will teach in the teaching degree programmes for Primary Education (L1), Secondary Education (L2), Grammar Schools (L3), Special-Needs Education (L5), as well as Vocational Education and Training (BBB). You will also contribute to teaching in the bachelor-s degree programme “Physical Activity and Health-, the English-language master's degree programme “Human Movement Analytics: Biomechanics, Motor Control, and Learning-, and the master-s degree programme “Clinical Sport Therapy and Sport Physiology-. In addition, you will take part in courses covering applied fields of training science (theory and practice of movement domains and sports disciplines). You will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, including the ability to inspire enthusiasm for the discipline among students and to develop teaching concepts thoughtfully and in line with students- needs. Active involvement in the Teacher Training Center is welcome.
You are also expected to engage in the supervision and mentoring of early-career researchers. In particular, active participation in the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN) is expected. The integration of gender aspects into research and teaching is desirable.
Requirements:
You must hold a completed university degree, an outstanding and subject-relevant doctorate, and additional academic achievements (demonstrated, for example, by a habilitation or relevant peer-reviewed publications) in the field of sports science and/or training science, with a clear connection to the research priorities outlined above. In addition, your research profile should be distinguished by publications in high-ranking international peer-reviewed journals and by international collaboration. Success in independent acquisition (and management) of externally funded projects (preferably DFG, BMFTR, EU) is a prerequisite.
You should have relevant teaching experience as well as experience in the (further) development of study degree programmes. Proof of a special pedagogical aptitude is required, as is the ability to teach in both German and English. A strong commitment, especially in the areas of teaching, curriculum development, and academic self-governance, is desirable. Above-average teaching evaluations are taken as evidence of your pedagogical aptitude.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
