The professorship for High‑Performance Materials is a key chair for research and teaching in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In the core research area of mobility, and in particular aerospace technology, metallic materials that are subject to high thermal and mechanical stress are seen as a key requirement for future mobility and circular economy systems. Accordingly, the professorship is embedded in the research field of aerospace engineering at the university as well as in the Lower Saxony Research Centre for Aerospace (NFL) and the OpenHybrid-Lab-Factory (OHLF). With its scientific work, the professorship makes a significant contribution to the further development and characterisation of superalloys and lightweight materials, including metal-hybrid materials in production and application. The successful candidate (f/m/d) is expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development (https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/hochschulentwicklung). In addition to the classic service areas of a university (research, teaching and studies, transfer, governance and administration), this applies in particular to digitalisation, internationalisation, equality and diversity, as well as knowledge exchange.Our expectations
The professorship addresses the following research areas:- Highly stressed (thermally and mechanically) materials in mobility, such as superalloys and titanium alloys, materials for future mobility fuels (LH2), metallic materials for space propulsion systems, and ceramic matrix materials and other pioneering composite materials
- Future circular economy systems with adapted metallic lightweight materials and casting processes
- Mechanical behaviour of materials subject to high thermal and mechanical stress
- Material and process design for the additive manufacturing of metallic components
- Modern analytical methods for material characterization
- Internationally well recognised researcher in the field of materials science
- Successful acquisition of third-party funding
- Experience in establishing and leading your own research group
- Experience in independently conducting university teaching courses
- Strong teamwork, management and leadership skills
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the core research area of mobility at TU Braunschweig and the NFL and OHLF research centres
- Commitment to increasing the internationalisation and international visibility of TU Braunschweig

Requirements, § 25 NHG
- A degree in a relevant field
- Pedagogical aptitude
- Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
- Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a postdoctoral degree (Habilitation) or achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
