W2-Professorship of Fundamentals of Design and Sculptural Design

Your Responsibilities
You will teach in the field of Fundamentals of Design and Sculptural Design in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes of the Architecture teaching unit within the Faculty of Detmold School of Design - from foundational instruction through to specialized in-depth study. Here you introduce students to the fundamentals of visual design, both in architecture and in sculptural-artistic processes.
The focus of your teaching is on conveying experimental, analogue and digital approaches to spatial design. This also involves orientation towards forward-looking technologies, materials and methods.
You have a strong desire to be on campus and present for your students. Up to 25 % of your teaching can be provided as digital teaching, if required, to enable cross-location lectures.
You are prepared to conduct courses in German as well as in English.
You will promote interdisciplinary study formats, e.g., through practical student projects.
You will conduct research and experiment in the field of craft-based artistic processes, strategies and materials, potentially extending as far as computer-aided design and fabrication.
Your research is application-oriented and complements the university's interdisciplinary research network.
You also enjoy communicating your subject area and your research findings to a broad audience.
You have strong interest in innovative communication formats which encourage the dialog between science and society.
You will shape teaching formats and modules centred on the composition and scale of people, objects and space, and, as an engaged and team-oriented individual, help develop the department.
You will contribute to the university-s internal committee work in a collegial manner and participate actively in expanding cooperation relationships with domestic and foreign universities.
Your Profile
You have
- an outstanding, independent body of work as well as extensive experience in architecture, sculpture, or related artistic disciplines
- teaching competence and/or pedagogical aptitude that understands the content of the subject area as spatial and communicative practice
- the ability to convey the fundamentals of design and sculptural form-giving - perception, proportion, material and space - both theoretically and in a practice-oriented way
You move confidently between classical and experimental craft techniques, artistic creation, model-making, modelling, visualisation and fabrication.
For you, the media-based connection between analogue and digital design processes is lived design practice. You read and design spaces and objects as carriers of meaning, atmosphere and experience. You are willing and able to situate design processes within the interdisciplinary context of the Architecture teaching unit and to relate them to fundamental architectural questions.
In addition, you fulfil the requirements of § 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW and have:
- a completed university degree in the field of the advertised position, ideally in architecture, and proven ability to professionally guide architectural design processes in the basic modules and design corrections
- a successfully completed doctorate degree, achievements equivalent to a doctorate or a special aptitude for artistic work and additional artistic achievements
- relevant professional experience (at least five years, at least three of which gained outside the university sector)
Furthermore, you should also have
