W2 Professorship in Physical Chemistry with a focus on materials research Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen
The Faculty of Biology and Chemistry invites applications for a
W2 Professorship in Physical Chemistry with a focus on materials research
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
The professorship belongs to the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). The focus of your work will be on the field of materials research. In this context, scientific collaboration within JLU is encouraged, particularly with the Center for Materials Research (ZfM) and with materials science research groups in the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Geography. Collaboration in interdisciplinary research projects within JLU-s focus area “Material and Energy- is expected.
Beyond JLU, your research aligns with the research priority area “Materials for Sustainable Energy, Quantum and Space Technologies- of the Research Campus of Central Hessen (FCMH). Research collaborations within the FCMH are therefore expected.
The professorship is also intended to strengthen the ongoing internationalization activities of the faculty and JLU. In this context, you will be involved in supervising international students and will play an active role in the Cluster of Excellence – Post Lithium Storage (POLiS). You will also participate in existing and planned collaborative research projects.
Your teaching duties will correspond to 8 semester hours per week. This includes teaching in the bachelor-s and master-s degree programs in “Chemistry-, the bachelor-s degree program in “Food Chemistry-, the bachelor-s and master-s degree programs in “Advanced Materials-, and the master-s degree program in “Sustainable Chemistry-. Continuous development of course concepts including the use of digital media is expected. Teaching will be in German and English.
In addition, a strong commitment to the supervision of doctoral students is expected, for example in the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN).

Requirements:
We are seeking an internationally recognized researcher who has an outstanding track record in a current field of materials research, with a focus on electrochemical interface research, energy storage or conversion, and the investigation of relevant systems using modern instrumental and analytical methods.
In addition to a qualification for scientific work, which is generally demonstrated by the quality of the doctorate, pedagogical aptitude appropriate to the teaching duties is required. Teaching responsibilities require language competence in both German and English (German: language level C2, English: language level C1).
You must also hold a university degree in chemistry or a comparable subject within the natural sciences, an outstanding doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements (proven, e.g., by a habilitation or in the form of peer-reviewed publications) with a focus on the modelling of electrochemical functional materials and the experimental investigation of transport and charge transfer processes.
You should demonstrate international networks and success in independent acquisition of external funding.
Furthermore, you should have experience in academic teaching at a scientific university. Evidence of your excellent didactic skills, demonstrated by positively evaluated courses, is desirable.
Experience in academic self-administration is advantageous.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
