The following position at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is advertised:

University professorship

in accordance with § 99 Austrian University Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) at the Institute for Fine Arts in the field of „Post-digital Art“. This full-time professorship is offered for a period of 3 years, starting on 1 October 2026.

We are looking for an internationally renowned artist with an outstanding reputation in the international art world who has set standards through their artistic work. A sound knowledge of current art discourses and methods is desirable, particularly in the field of post-digital artistic practices that critically examine the social, aesthetic, and political implications of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and algorithmic cultures.
Conditions of employment
  • a university or college degree appropriate to the position or equivalent artistic and/or scientific aptitude
  • internationally recognized work and outstanding artistic and/or scientific research qualifications in the context of post-digital art practice, with a particular focus on debates about technology criticism, posthumanism, digital materiality, and/or new forms of artistic knowledge production in the sense of an examination of current socio-political transformation processes
  • outstanding artistic and/or scientific qualifications in the field of post-digital art practice, with a particular focus on debates about innovative forms of mediation, curatorial strategies, interdisciplinary collaborations, and/or critical media reflection in the sense of an examination of forward-looking perspectives on the development and exploration of the arts in the field of post-digital art, which actively shape the art field and contribute to the institution's profile
  • relevant portfolio (exhibitions, projects, publications, etc.)
  • competence to lead and organize teaching within a department
  • competence to artistically support and promote students
  • willingness to closely cooperate with the professors and staff of the departments and workshops of the Institute for Fine Arts in terms of study contents and organization
  • willingness to participate in the committees of the University’s self-administration
  • willingness to engage in internal and public activities, interdisciplinary projects and cooperations
  • very good knowledge of German and/or English
  • general anti-discriminatory understanding and the willingness to further improve these skills
The teaching commitment includes various types of courses, for instance one-on-one artistic teaching, projects, workshop formats, (pro) seminars, lectures, and exercises, totaling at least 17 hours per week.

The monthly gross salary according to the collective agreement for university employees in salary group A1 currently amounts to Euro 6.713,30 for fulltime employment.
