The following position is announced at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna:

University professorship

in accordance with § 99 Austrian University Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) for Architectural Theory and Architectural Design at the Institute for Art and Architecture (IKA). This full-time professorship is offered for a period of one year, starting on 1 October 2026.

The architectural education at the IKA is based on an interacting structure of five platforms, each dedicated to a specific focus. These five platforms are: Analogue Digital Production (ADP), Structural Materials Technology (CMT), Ecology Sustainability Cultural Heritage (ESC), History Theory Criticism (HTC), Geography Landscapes Cities (GLC).

The open position is located within the platform History Theory Criticism (HTC). The professorship includes obligations such as design studio, lectures and research as well as administration.

Conditions of employment

• qualification as an architect or architectural theorist with an Austrian or equivalent international university degree on PhD level in architecture or proof of an equivalent academic qualification based on international publication, lecture and research activity
• proof of a recognized highly qualified scientific or artistic-scientific position in the field of architectural theory and/or architectural history
• university teaching experience in the field of History Theory Criticism (HTC) mentioned above, including design supervision
• excellent knowledge of English and/or German
• general anti-discriminatory understanding and the willingness to further improve these skills

Desired qualifications

• exceptional knowledge and achievements in the field of architectural theory and the ability to link them to student's design work
• expertise in the field of architectural design with a focus on architectural theory, architectural history and urban history
• social skills and ability to work in a team

The teaching commitment includes of at least 14 hours per week.

The monthly gross salary according to the collective bargaining agreement for university employees in salary group A1 for full-time employment is currently Euro 6.713,30.
