We are seeking a young researcher with a Ph.D. (f/m/d) who can develop their own relevant research profile at the intersection of theoretical and methodological issues in differential psychology. The research profile to be developed may, for example, also include specialization and in-depth expertise in the area of (a) the development and refinement of theoretical approaches to the psychological measurement and testing of inter- and intra-individual differences and their formal modeling, (b) the construction and evaluation of corresponding psychological measurement methods and testing instruments, and/or (c) methods of psychological diagnosis in application-oriented subfields.
The teaching focuses on imparting knowledge and skills in the fields of psychological assessment and differential psychology, particularly in the “Bachelor’s in Psychology” and “Master’s in Psychology” programs with a research focus, as well as in the “Master’s in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy.” In particular, the program should address the theoretical foundations of measurement and the skills required to develop and evaluate psychological methods for measuring interindividual differences and intraindividual processes, as well as psychological assessment.
In teaching and research, the university’s international orientation as a European university - as part of the “Young Universities for the Future of Europe” (YUFE: https://www.yufe.eu/) alliance - and the requirements for an innovative psychology program in accordance with the new licensing regulations and the guidelines of the German Psychological Society should be taken into account.
The university offers a wide range of opportunities for collaboration within the department and with the research clusters “Health Sciences,” “Mind, Media, Machines,” and “Social Change, Social Policy, and the State.” Within this framework, the tenure-track phase provides the freedom and opportunities to develop an independent research profile that extends beyond one’s existing disciplinary expertise.
Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent research in the specified field, taking into account and implementing open science practices whenever possible,
- Developing and carrying out an independent research program, including publishing and securing external funding,
- Independent, science-based teaching in accordance with the teaching load, with a focus on conveying the aforementioned content using professional, didactic, and organizational skills, in close consultation and cooperation with the “Differential Psychology and Psychological Assessment” research group,
- Taking over responsibility for modules and participating in the conceptual development of modules, particularly in the areas of psychometrics and research on individual differences,
- Participating in the further development of existing degree programs and, where applicable, in the design of new degree programs in psychology,
- Supervising students, including administering exams,
- Managing the test library of the Institute of Psychology,
- Assisting with administrative and organizational tasks at the Institute of Psychology,
- Participating in academic self-governance.
Your Qualifications (Employment Requirements):
- A university degree with a very good grade in psychology or a related field (e.g., sociology, economics, cognitive science),
- A doctoral degree with a very good grade in psychology,
- Initial relevant academic achievements (e.g., publications in relevant peer-reviewed international journals),
- Relevant experience and exceptional dedication to teaching and advising students,
- Excellent knowledge of psychological research methods and experience using statistical software (e.g., R, Mplus, Mx, etc.),
- Language requirements: very good command of German and English (the ability to teach courses in English is desirable; the ability to teach in German is required),
- Excellent teamwork skills and communication skills.
The following qualifications and experiences are also welcome:
- Experience with open science practices
- Proficiency in using modern media and presentation formats in teaching
- Openness to collaboration within the Department of Psychology and the university
- Proven expertise in gender and diversity issues
Appointments are initially for a fixed term of four years (Pay Grade 14, TV-L). The fixed term is governed by Section 2(1) of the WissZeitVG (Act on Fixed-Term Contracts in Academia). Accordingly, only applicants who still have the required period of qualifying service as specified in Section 2(1) of the WissZeitVG may be considered. In cases where outstanding suitability, performance, and qualifications are demonstrated, the position of Senior Researcher (f/m/d) may be granted on a permanent basis following a successful evaluation (Pay Grade 15, TV-L). The specific teaching obligations are governed by the Teaching Obligations and Teaching Documentation Regulation. They amount to four course hours in the position of Researcher and nine course hours in the position of Senior Researcher.

- Depending on individual qualifications, a gross annual salary in accordance with the TV-L between €61,723.08 (Grade 1, Pay Scale 14) and €86,333.76 (Grade 6, Pay Scale 14) for a full-time post.The university will determine the individual pay grade on the basis of relevant previous professional experience in the event of a successful application. Additional benefits such as the annual bonus (‘Christmas bonus’) and any career development opportunities within the advertised pay group are also dependent on this classification. This is based on the applicable legal provisions of the TV-L (in particular Section 16 of the TV-L).
