Tenure-Track Position as Associate or Full Professor of Multimodal and Experimental Imaging
(salary group W2 / W3)
at the Institute of Radiology. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to an associate or full professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met. Appointment to an associate or full professorship is based on the applicant’s qualifications.
We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader with a proven experimental focus in multimodal imaging who can drive further independent research in this field. The primary focus of the professorship is on the methodological advancement of innovative non-invasive in vivo imaging techniques and the analysis of complex quantitative datasets. The successful candidate will take on an active management position, shape the scientific approach of the Small Animal Imaging Core Unit, provide support to other working groups, and advance interdisciplinary collaborations. The core unit has a comprehensive array of modern technical equipment, including a 7T small animal MRI, optical imaging systems, and a dedicated small animal ultrasound system. A PET / SPECT small-animal CT is used in close collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Medicine. The professorship also has unlimited access to the excellent infrastructure and resources of the Institute of Radiology.
The professor’s research profile should also tie in with the key research priorities of the faculty. Active participation in teaching and collaboration in the relevant research consortia (collaborative research centers, research training groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research, Deutsches Zentrum für Immuntherapie, NCT WERA) and priority programs at the faculties and at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen is expected.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, science, or engineering and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor). Candidates do not require a license to practice medicine in the field of radiology, but we would welcome involvement in clinical practice at the Institute of Radiology.
Additional qualifications are expected for initial appointment to a full professorship with tenure track to a permanent full professorship: evidence of a broad spectrum of research in the field of experimental imaging, international visibility, continuous international publications, proof of successful third-party funding, extensive experience in teaching, and leadership and management experience in an academic context usually gained during previous professorial appointments and while performing the duties of an associate or full professorship.
The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programs in Medicine, Dentistry, Logopedics, Midwifery Sciences, Molecular Medicine (BSc and MSc), Medical Process Management, and, in conjunction with other faculties, Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology. The professor is expected to teach in these degree programs. Curricular teaching in Medicine and Dentistry is conducted in German.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
