Student / Scientific Assistant (f_m_x) - Project World Stress Map GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences
The GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences is one of the world's leading institutions in the field of geosciences. As part of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest research organisation, we address global challenges such as natural hazards, climate change and the sustainable use of resources. In doing so, we combine cutting-edge research with social relevance. Our international staff - around 1,200 employees and approx. 500 guests - work in a multidisciplinary way and with a unique infrastructure to research the dynamic processes of the Earth system. Our vision: “Taking the pulse of the Earth to safeguard a habitable planet.”
For section 2.6 Seismic Hazard and Risk Dynamics (department 'Geophysics'), we are looking for a:Student / Scientific Assistant (f_m_x) - Project World Stress Map
The World Stress Map (WSM) Project analyses and evaluates data on tectonic stresses in the Earth’s crust worldwide. The data is obtained, for example, from earthquake focal mechanisms and deep boreholes, and is compiled in the PostgreSQL database MaRS (Management and Repository of Stress). The online tool CASMO (Create A Stress Map Online) can be used to generate user-specific stress maps.
We are looking for a student to join the WSM team to further develop CASMO and enter stress data from publications into the WSM database using the web-based MaRS interface.
Your responsibilities:
- Further development of the CASMO tool
- Testing the MaRS user interface
- Working with crustal stress data
