The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include

• Implementation of the DFG project “The Ambivalent Role of Aluminum in Concrete: Inhibition of Silicate Dissolution vs. ASR Prevention,” including planning, implementation, documentation, evaluation, and publication of the research results in accordance with the defined work plan and timeline 
• Performing preparation, including chemical pretreatment, storage, and preparation of mineralogic and concrete related samples for analytical measurements 
• Conducting, evaluating, and processing material analyses, particularly using ToF-SIMS, XRD, XPS, and other methods
• Coordinating and collaborating with partners and external stakeholders
• Ensuring compliance with scientific standards and project-specific requirements
• Documenting, maintaining, and managing project-related data and documentation
• Providing detailed scientific documentation of results through journal articles, presentations at national and international conferences, publications, and reports
• The opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. is available

Your qualifications

• Successfully completed a scientific university degree (Diploma/Master’s) in chemistry, physics, civil engineering, mineralogy, materials science, or a comparable field
• Experience in instrumental analysis and working in a chemistry laboratory
• Knowledge of inorganic building materials and the alkali-silica reaction
• Experience with XRD, ToF-SIMS, XPS, or heat-flow calorimetry is a plus
• Very good command of English  
• Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
