The University of Zurich invites applications for a
professorship in political philosophy
starting on 1 August 2027.The future postholder is expected to have conducted excellent, internationally visible research in the field of political philosophy and have relevant teaching experience. In their teaching, they are required to cover the central topics of political philosophy in their systematic and historical dimensions. In the area of research, contributions that relate to the field of normativity theory, the research focus of the Department of Philosophy, are expected. Candidates must also have an interest in socially relevant and current topics. In addition to innovative research within the field of philosophy, the central tasks of the professorship include cooperation in research and teaching with other professors at the Department of Philosophy, at the Department of Political Science, at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, at other faculties of the University of Zurich, as well as with national and international institutions.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in philosophy completed at the time of application and excellent academic publications that demonstrate a further thematic focus. Depending on the qualifications of the person to be appointed, the professorship will be filled as a full or associate professorship. The administrative language of the University of Zurich is German, which is why, if necessary, candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of their appointment.
