Professorship in “Culture and History of China in the Context of East Asia – with a focus on Korea- (f/m/d)
Full Professorship (W3) or Tenure Track Professorship (W1 to W3)
to be filled as early as possible.
Candidates are expected to represent the field of Sinology with a focus on modern history and China-s interconnectedness with East Asia - particularly with the states and cultures on the Korean Peninsula.
Research and teaching should center on historically informed examinations of East Asian dynamics, which have been significantly shaped by China. Methodologically, the position requires an empirical foundation and culturally sensitive analysis of source materials in the original languages (Chinese and Korean) regarding Sino-Korean exchange relations.
Successful candidates should possess an international reputation and established networks in the fields of Sinology and/or Korean Studies, evidenced by a strong publication record and a proven track record in securing external funding. In addition, we expect applicants to be willing to participate actively in interdisciplinary collaborative research projects. Applicants will be evaluated according to their career status and in consideration of their individual career paths. This determines whether the position will be filled at salary grade W3 or W1 (junior professorship with a tenure track to W3).
In accordance with Article 51 and 51b Higher Education Act of the state Baden-Württemberg, the appointment to a tenure track professorship (W1) requires a completed degree, an excellent doctorate, and pedagogical aptitude which has generally been proven through teaching experience. If you spent time employed as a research assistant (before or after your doctorate), this employment and the period of your doctoral studies combined should not exceed six years. The Tenure Track Professorship (junior professorship, salary grade W1) will usually be limited to six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a permanent full professorship (salary grade W3). The appointment to a full professorship (W3) additionally requires a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications (Article 47 (2), Higher Education Act).
