Professorship for AI Systems Engineering (W2)

We are looking for you:

Do you (m/w/d) have scientific expertise and practical experience in the development and operation of AI systems and would like to bring these topics and their fundamentals closer to our students and further develop your subject area scientifically and practically?
Then become part of our collegial team, which shapes educational offerings for young people in an engaged, creative, and highly self-determined manner, creates solutions for concrete practical challenges through applied research, and thus makes an important, meaningful contribution to the society of tomorrow.
You are proficient across the spectrum of AI engineering from the selection and dimensioning of hardware infrastructure to the implementation and orchestration of AI models in production. Furthermore, you possess deep expertise in one or more of the following or related fields:
- Machine Learning Operations (MLOps)
- AI Architecture
- Large Scale Computing
- Data Engineering
Ideally, you possess practical experience with the application of these topics in the context of Public Health.
You are enthusiastic about teaching, scientific approaches, and practical relevance and thereby contribute your diverse skills and experiences, also within the framework of interdisciplinary study offerings. You are an individual who
- likes to work in a solution-oriented and interdisciplinary manner in a team and thereby acts with a readiness to innovate,
- uses modern tools and didactic methods in teaching and develops these further as needed,
- supports project-based teaching as well as student-centred learning,
- communicates emphatically and openly and
- is open to exchange with other teaching and research institutions.
We expect a doctorate or a doctorate-equivalent scientific achievement in computer science or an adjacent field.
Terms and expectations
- If necessary, you might teach courses from related fields in other departments.
- Your knowledge of German is sufficient for teaching and participating in the self‑administration of the department.
- You are willing and able to offer courses in English.
- You are constantly developing your didactic skills and are motivated to use new teaching methods, innovative teaching technologies and online teaching.
- You actively contribute to the development of your field of research, the internationalisation of the department and the self-administration of the university.
- In addition, you are engaged in applied research projects, and in the area of knowledge and technology transfer.
Requirements
- University degree
- Teaching skills, which you will demonstrate in trial classes, and in other ways
- Special aptitude for scientific work, which is proven by a doctorate or by an expert opinion certifying academic achievements equivalent to a doctorate
- Special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in the course of at least five years of work experience, gained after obtaining a university degree of which at least three years must have been practised outside of the academic sector. In special cases, work experience outside of the academic sector can be provided by proving that a significant part of your work was carried out in cooperation between the university and non-academic partners over a period of at least five years.
