The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is looking to appoint a new
Professor of Global Philosophy (Grade: W 3)
from 1 March 2028.
Our ideal candidate will have expertise in researching philosophy from multiple perspectives taking into account its historical diversity. The aim of the professorship is to integrate both European and non-European philosophical traditions into research and teaching. It addresses the interconnectedness of knowledge systems and develops methods for reflecting on philosophy as a global, dialogical project.
We would especially welcome historical or systematic research into non-European epistemologies, ethics and metaphysics; conceptions of epistemic justice and their application to scientific and social discourses; and/or decolonial, postcolonial and intercultural perspectives.
Applicants should have an international network and a track record of successfully securing third-party funding.
The candidate’s teaching should present philosophy within an open, interdisciplinary framework, with a focus on reflection of the development of theories in the cultural and social sciences. The professorship will offer courses in undergraduate BA and MA degree programs as well as in non-degree programs and is actively involved in the further development of interdisciplinary courses offered by various faculties.
Teaching at the FernUniversität integrates modern educational technologies and takes place both online and on-site. Active participation in the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning formats in accordance with university quality standards is expected.
The prerequisite for employment is academic achievement in accordance with Section 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act.
