The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include

Research in the framework of a joint IGF-project “Environmental Stress Cracking resistance of multiple-recycled PE-HD materials for safety relevant container applications”

• Investigation of Environmental Stress Cracking behaviour of relevant polymer materials based on PE-HD after various pre-exposure or multiple processing/recycling steps using the Full Notch Creep Test (FNCT) including subsequent fracture surface analysis, as well as further mechanical and physicochemical methods, comparative thermo-analytical investigations and microscopy (LM, SEM)
• Identification of altered damage mechanisms
• Project management including final report; co-operation with project partners and industry

Your qualifications

• Successfully completed university degree (M.Sc./M.Eng.) and PhD in the field of Polymer Science or comparable
• Experience in the field of mechanical testing or environmental stress cracking and damage mechanisms
• Ideally, expertise in polymer durability or experience in the use of thermoanalytical methods and microscopy
• Very good knowledge of German and English (written and spoken)
• Ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate
• Goal-oriented and structured way of working, as well as initiative commitment
• Good communication skills including publications in scientific journals and presentations at international conferences
• Willingness to learn and interested in interdisciplinary, applied research
