Working at Charité

The MR Elastography Working Group is part of the interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1340 at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and conducts research at the intersection of medicine, preclinical research, physics, and computer science. This subproject focuses on investigating tumor-associated inflammation and biophysical interactions between the tumor and the liver in order to identify imaging markers for disease progression and response to therapeutic treatment. Furthermore, the markers will be evaluated to analyze the response to image-guided, locoregional therapies in interventional radiology. The project involves performing quantitative MRI/MRE scans and analyzing biosamples from patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
Imaging studies conducted before and after locoregional therapy approved in accordance with guidelines, combined with peri-interventional liver and tumor biopsies, will enable correlation with molecular and histopathological findings. In close collaboration with clinical and scientific partners within the Collaborative Research Center, we combine methodological development, experimental ultrasound and MRI systems, and biophysical modeling into a translational research approach.

Overview of the position

  • Responsibilities include planning and optimizing MRI examination protocols and sequences, as well as—when necessary—independently performing MRI/MRE examinations as part of scientific studies.
  • Research assignments: MR image analysis, biostatistical evaluations, and the preparation of scientific publications.
You will be employed as a research assistant: According to §110 (4), sentence 3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG), research assistants are entitled to an appropriate amount of time during their working hours for their own further academic training (doctoral degree).

What we are looking for

  • Practical experience in the field of MRI and an interest in oncological imaging.
  • A master’s degree (or equivalent) in biomedical engineering, physics, or a related field
  • Experience in programming MRI sequences is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting clinical trials (preferred).
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis, as well as prior experience in biostatistics.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • A meticulous, independent, and self-directed work style with a high degree of initiative, as well as the ability to quickly and reliably familiarize yourself with new subject areas.
  • Ability to think conceptually and interpret scientific data with the goal of producing high-quality scientific manuscripts

Charité offers you

  • Highly professional work environment in motivated and interdisciplinary teams
  • A future-oriented, varied and demanding position with a high grade of personal responsibility and personal decision making opportunities
  • Intercultural team events, well structured onboarding phase with kind team members

  • Bike leasing via "JobRad" possible, bike repair workshop with subsidised price conditions for employees available
  • Certification as a family friendly university and company since 2007 - You may find further information here

  • Paygrade 13 according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
  • Working hours will be part-time 75%.
  • The position is limited until 30.06.2030, as it is tied to the project duration
  • 30 days of paid vacation per year
  • The application period ends on: 30.08.2026
  • Position ID: 7764
