Cognition and Technology in Movement and Training
As part of the establishment of Sport Science at the University of Bremen in the winter semester 2024/2025 and the launch of the Bachelor’s degree program Sport, Movement and Health starting in the winter semester 2026/2027, we are seeking to strengthen our team by recruiting a candidate (m/f/d) with a strong interest in developing an independent teaching and research profile in the field of cognition and technology in movement and training. The successful candidate will be committed to high-quality university teaching and to the research- and practice-oriented delivery of movement and training science content and competencies, with a particular focus on cognition and technology.
The position advertised here offers you a predictable and transparent path to a permanent academic position as part of our department. Initially, the appointment is limited to four years (salary group 14 TV-L). The permanent position of a Senior Researcher (salary group 15 TV-L) can be assigned in case of proof of outstanding aptitude, performance and competence after successful completion of an evaluation. This full-time position enables you to independently perform your duties in research and academic teaching within the framework of the Bremen Higher Education Act (§ 24 Para. 2). The teaching responsibilities are eight weekly hours per semester in the position as Lecturer and twelve weekly hours as Senior Lecturer.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Independent research and research-based teaching, particularly in the field of cognition and technology in movement and training
- Independent design and delivery of courses within the natural science–oriented modules of sport science degree programs, including both discipline-specific and teacher education programs
- Responsibility for modules and active participation in the conceptual development and further advancement of modules, particularly in the area of cognition and technology in movement and training
- Organization and administration of examinations; supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses; academic advising and mentoring of students
- Contribution to the further development of existing sport science study programs and, where appropriate, to the design and implementation of new programs
- Conduct of experimental research (including publication activities, conference participation, and active involvement in third-party funding acquisition) at the intersection of movement/training, motor cognition, and technology, using natural science–based measurement methods (e.g., motion analysis) and quantitative research methods, with the aim of further academic qualification
- Participation in academic self-governance and contribution to administrative and organizational tasks within the discipline of Sport Science
Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):
- At least a good completed university degree in Sports Science or a related discipline (e.g., Psychology, Cognitive Science).
- A recent, above-average doctoral degree in Movement Science
- Several years of teaching experience at a higher education institution, preferably in the area of cognition and technology in movement and training
- Proven research experience in the field of cognition and technology in movement and training
- Very good command of German (level C1) and good command of English (level B2) in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
Further are desirable:
- Experience in linking research and teaching, and willingness to engage in research-oriented teaching
- University teaching certificate or willingness to pursue further training in higher education didactics
- Confident command of contemporary teaching methods, or willingness to develop expertise in this area
- Willingness to collaborate within the field of Sports Science, the Department of Human and Health Sciences (e.g., Psychology), and the University of Bremen (e.g., research focus areas Minds, Media, Machines as well as Health Sciences)
- Excellent communication skills and strong ability to work in a team
The employment is regulated by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract, § 2 (1) (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still have the respective qualification periods available in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG.
