The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Tenure Track Position as Associate / Full Professor of CAR T-Cell Therapy (Salary Group W2 / W3)
at the Department of Medicine 5 – Hematology and Oncology. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years and encompasses the following options: an associate (W2) tenure track professorship leading to a permanent W2 professorship or a full (W3) tenure track professorship leading to a permanent full professorship. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to an associate (W2) or full (W3) professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met. The decision as to whether the successful candidate is appointed to an associate or a full professorship depends on their qualifications.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching in the area of translational CAR T-cell therapy for malignant and inflammatory diseases. The professor will be responsible for research, teaching, and patient care in this area, as well as leading the clinical CAR T-cell unit.
We expect the successful candidate to become actively involved in teaching and in the various research collaborations (collaboration research centers, research training groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research, leading edge cluster Medical Valley, Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies [SAOT]), the priority programs at the Faculty and Uniklinikum (e.g. Comprehensive Cancer Center). Degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (B.Sc.; M.Sc.), Medical Process Management, Midwifery Science (B.Sc.), and Logopedics, as well as the degree programs Integrated Life Sciences (B.Sc.; M.Sc.) and Integrated Immunology (M.Sc.) offered in collaboration with the Department of Biology. The language of instruction is predominantly German.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of hematology / oncology.
In order to be appointed to a full professorship (W3), candidates are expected to meet the following additional requirements: a wide research spectrum and high international visibility in the area of CAR T-cell therapy, experience in leading phase I / II studies involving CAR T-cells, and management and leadership skills.
The successful candidate should become actively involved in administering academic affairs and in developing strategic initiatives. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
