The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Full Professor of Radiotherapy (Salary Group W3)
at the Department of Radiation Oncology. This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by October 1, 2025.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The professor will also be expected to manage the Department of Radiation Oncology at Uniklinikum Erlangen.
The ideal candidate should have several years’ management experience both in a clinical and an academic setting and have the necessary expertise to take a goal and staff-oriented approach to managing a hospital. The professorship will focus predominantly on treating tumors with radiotherapy, planning treatment, conducting pre-clinical and clinical studies, and carrying out related physical research. In addition, candidates are expected to have advanced knowledge of the indication, implementation, and monitoring of systemic tumor therapy in combination with radiotherapy. The professor is expected to collaborate closely at a clinical and scientific level with all oncological departments at Uniklinikum Erlangen and with the neighboring subjects of imaging diagnostics and nuclear medicine.
We are looking for a personality with an outstanding clinical profile and excellent research achievements that have been recognized accordingly with third-party funding and scientific publications. We also expect the professor to collaborate with the oncological centers and research associations (CCC / NCT WERA, BZKF, and DZI), collaborative research centers, and research training groups at the Faculty of Medicine, the University and other clinical departments at Uniklinikum Erlangen.
Degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine (BSc), molecular medicine (MSc), midwifery science, medical process management, and, in collaboration with other faculties, medical engineering and integrated immunology. The professor will be expected to teach in these degree programs.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of radiotherapy.
The successful candidate should demonstrate academic leadership, the ability to support early career researchers and to drive FAU’s strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant institutional network.
In its pursuit of academic excellence, FAU is committed to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity.
