University Professor - salary grade W3for the chair of "Functional Interfaces". Reference number: II-114/18 (starting at the earliest possible / permanent position / closing date for applications 07/06/18) Working field: The position requires research and teaching in the area of Physical Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry. Teaching will be required in the study programs of Chemistry (BSc/MSc), Chemical Engineering (BSc) and Polymer Science (MSc). Candidates should be able to teach in German and English. Furthermore, candidates are expected to supervise students’ theses on Bachelor, Master and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.
The research focus of successful candidates should address the field of physical chemistry of interfaces of solids and soft condensed matter. One focus area should address the investigation and modification of the functionality of such systems. Initiation of and participation in material science or physico-chemically oriented collaborative research projects is expected.
For instance, in case of TU Berlin’s successful application regarding the Cluster of Excellence "Unifying Systems in Catalysis (UniSysCat)" contribution to this joint project is desirable. Requirements: Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act) [information sheet available by request], including a completed academic education in chemistry, physics or a comparable discipline, qualified achievements in research (doctorate and additional academic achievements) and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access 144242).
We are looking for candidates with an internationally visible profile in the area of material science oriented physical chemistry of interfaces, who will represent this area in research and teaching. Competence in the field of physico-chemical characterization of the mesoscopic structure of soft-matter interfaces constitutes a central qualification. Willingness and ability for interdisciplinary research, e.g. between theory and experiment, is expected. Candidates with a research focus in the field of UHV-investigations of interfaces cannot be considered. Cutting-edge research results with sustained leadership published in internationally visible peer-reviewed journals and experience in raising funds from national and international external sources (proven by successful grant applications of the last 5 years) are expected.
Applicants must show teaching experiences at university level. Additional experience in advising and supervising Bachelor, Master and doctoral students is expected as well as experience in academic administration and in leading larger research groups.
