University Professor (W3)

who will hold a professorship at the Technische Universität Braunschweig with reduced teaching responsibilities (two weekly lecture hours) and at the same time take a leave of absence to succeed University Professor Dr.-Ing. Karsten Lemmer as

Institute of Transportation Systems

at the DLR.

The Institute of Transportation Systems / DLR focuses on research and development in the fields of automotive, railway and public transport systems as well as traffic management. About 170 employees at the sites in Braunschweig and Berlin therefore contribute to increased safety, efficiency, profitability and sustainability of transportation.

Research and teaching aim at an improvement in traffic safety through automated traffic flow management and automated road and rail vehicles using the latest technologies.

For the position of the Director, we are looking for a dynamic and charismatic leader with acknowledged expertise in several of the following fields of land-based traffic:
  • methodical development of information, assistance and automated transportation systems

  • safety and reliability of transportation systems

  • systemic analysis of intermodal and multimodal transportation systems

  • development and evaluation of intermodal and multimodal transport technologies

  • user-friendly integration in closed loops

Furthermore, we expect a university degree in a related subject plus PhD, corresponding research activities with outstanding scientific achievements and many years of professional experience as well as industry and leadership experience. Comprehensive expertise in acquisition, implementation and management of big research projects (public and private clients) are also required, as well as national and international networks. The willingness for interdisciplinary collaboration and close cooperation with partners inside and outside the DLR is expected. For this, knowledge of German on C2 level is required. The ability to teach and didactic skills complete the profile.

The requirements of the position are defined in Section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz). The TU Braunschweig aims at increasing the share of women in research and teaching and therefore particularly welcomes applications from women.
