University Professorship - salary grade W2in the field of "Bioconversion of biogenic resources". At the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy e.V. (ATB) the position as head of department for "Bioengineering" is to be filled in a joint appointment procedure with Technische Universität Berlin in the field of "Bioconversion of biogenic resources" at the Institute for Biotechnology, Faculty III. The appointment process will take place as W2 professorship using the "Berliner Modell". The employment is limited to 5 years with the option for further continuation. Faculty III Reference number: III-652/16 (starting at the earliest possible / for 5 years with option for further continuation after a positive evaluation / closing date for applications 31/01/17) Working field: Research and teaching in the field of "Bioconversion of biogenic resources". The successful candidate will be responsible for the basic research in the field of development of procedures and technical solutions for microbiological conversion processes of biomass. The knowledge should contribute to an extension and improvement for a pool of resources for a bio-based economy. The teaching duties will be in the field of description of biotechnological transformation processes of agricultural biomass and their technical application in an amount of 2 semester periods per week.
The task as head of the department "Bioengineering" of the Leibniz-Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) includes the responsibility for coordination of research work in the department, the identification of strategic research objectives, the development of expertise as well as further development of infrastructure. Requirements: Successful applicants must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education in a relevant field, qualified achievements in research (PhD), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification and pedagogical didactic qualifications, to be proven by a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick access no. 144242).
Candidates are expected to have profound scientific knowledge in the field of biotechnological conversion of biomass as well as a high level of willingness to cooperate and if possible many years of practical work experience with international orientation in a responsible position. In addition experiences in teaching as well as the participation in basic research projects in the field of bioconversion of biogenic resources are desirable.
The management position at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) includes the responsibility for the scientific and technical employees (four budget financed scientists) as well as the responsibility for laboratories, technical equipment and pilot plants.
Leadership competence is expected to promote the department by a motivating management style. The ability for a leading position of a large interdisciplinary research team must be proved by respective activities.
