Tenure Track Professorship (W1)
in Intelligent Biointegrative Systems

The use of material- and energy-efficient naturally evolving systems of molecular and cellular sensor technology offers perspectives for biologically optimised, resourcefriendly fabrication, regulation- and diagnostic processes.
The successful applicant will represent the field of intelligent bio-integrative systems in synthetic biology in research and teaching. We are seeking for a person who performs innovative research in the area of intelligent, multiscale self-optimising regulatory systems at the interface between experimental biology and bio-hybrid systems. The research expertise of the applicant may also include the use of datadriven mathematical simulations of fundamental and applied relevance in biosynthetic and biotechnical environments.
The position profits from its bridging function between the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomolecular Systems and other institutes at the Center of Biochemical Engineering (http://www.cbe.uni-stuttgart.de/) and collaborations are strongly encouraged.
The willingness to participate in local and regional institutions and research collaborations (Stuttgart Research Center Systems Biology, Stuttgart Center for Simulation Sciences (SC SimTech), Cyber Valley Baden-Württemberg) offers an opportunity to deliver new impulses for interdisciplinary and, possibly, industryrelevant cooperation. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in the teaching of compulsory and optional areas of the BSc - MSc courses in Technical Biology, and the planned English-language Masters course “Systems and Synthetic Biology”.
The professorship is funded in the context of the joint programme for the promotion of early career researchers by the German federal and state-governments. The position is a tenure track position leading to an appointment as a W3 professor in case of a positive evaluation. The requirements for employment listed in § 51 Baden-Württemberg university law apply.
