Technische Universität München
Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of

Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Electrical Power Transmission«

pay scale W2 with tenure track option to W3 to begin in summer semester 2017.
Scientific environment
The professorship is located in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is affiliated with the Munich School of Engineering (MSE). The MSE is an Integrative Research Center at TUM, focusing on energy research, e.g. in the areas of electro mobility, power-plant technologies, renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency. The combined research efforts are concentrated in the interdisciplinary project TUM.Energy.
The responsibilities of TUM professors include research, teaching and the promotion of early-career scientists.
We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of electrical power transmission with focus on methodologies utilizing new transmission technologies, which are more efficient, less costly and less visible than current technologies. The expansion of renewable power sources which are often far away from demand centers and their integration in the network requires a restructuring of power transmission and distribution system.
Teaching will focus on the MSE bachelor program but can also include other courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.
We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest levels. International scientific experience during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase is expected.
The successful candidate shows pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, is open to interdisciplinary research between electrical engineers and physicists, and is able to bring in scientific expertise into the public debate on the "German Energiewende".
TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor, based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria. Furthermore, TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant research environment of the Greater Munich Area. Furthermore, TUM offers attractive and performance-based salary conditions.
The TUM Munich Dual Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of newly appointed professors. MDCO gives assistance for relocation and integration of new professors, their partners and accompanying family members.
TUM is an equal opportunity employer. As such, we explicitly encourage applications from women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.
Application documents should be presented in accordance with TUM’s application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Appointment and Career System are available on http://www.tum.de/faculty-recruiting.
Please send your application no later than January 15, 2017 to the Director of the Munich School of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Thomas Hamacher, Email: Thomas.Hamacher@tum.de
