The School of Spatial Planning, Department of Urban Development, at TU Dortmund University invites applications for a position as

Research Assistant (f or m)

beginning from June 1st 2018, and limited until November 30th, 2020. The duration of the contract will suit the aspired qualification.

The salary follows the regulations of the collective bargaining law in salary class 13 TV-L or, if applicable, by transitional law (TVÜ-L). This is a part time position (70 %).

  • The successful candidate (f or m) has an above-average master or diploma degree in spatial planning, geography or a corresponding subject
  • A completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (see above) is welcome
  • The successful candidate (f or m) has demonstrated experience in urban and regional research, especially in terms of planning and governance issues
  • Basic knowledge of spatial statistics and geographical information systems
  • We expect very good English language skills
  • Great commitment, very good communicative skills and the ability to work in a team
  • The successful candidate (f or m) will work in the DFG-funded project "Where are the jobs? Urban spatial structure and subcentering in an international comparison" which is conducted in cooperation with the DLR (Dr. Hannes Taubenböck)
  • The successful candidate (f or m) will research the spatial patterns of employment in German and US American city regions as part of a comparative study; the project specifically aims at examining the role of spatial planning in processes of employment concentration and deconcentration in city regions
  • Involvement in the publication of project results in international journals
  • Organization of project workshops and research visits in the USA
