The Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry & Geophysics of the University of Bayreuth is looking to fill the role of a

to be appointed as soon as possible. The position is offered with the possibility of being promoted to a W3 Professor upon a successful performance review of research and teaching in accordance with the Bayreuth-Track Personnel Development Concept.
The Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry & Geophysics is seeking an outstanding scientist with broad experience in the use of experimental methods to investigate aspects of planetary formation, evolution and tectonic processes. Internationally-renowned candidates are sought from the fields of experimental petrology, geochemistry and geophysics whose research interests embrace the study of the origin, composition, structure and dynamics of planets and, in particular, planetary interiors. This could include the use of observational and analytical approaches in the investigation of planets or planetary materials or the use of experimental approaches to facilitate the analysis of meteorite/planetary samples.
Requirements for this position (according to Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, doctoral degree, Habilitation (postdoctoral lecturing qualification) and proven excellence in teaching. Evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. A capacity to teach in the English language is expected. Only applicants who are 52 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
The University of Bayreuth strives to further increase the diversity of its council of professors. Academics that will bring more diversity to the research and teaching profile of the university are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. This applies in particular to female and/or international applicants. Preference will be given to severely disabled candidates with the same qualifications. Applicants with children are very welcome. The University of Bayreuth is certified as a family friendly university, took part successfully in the HRK “Internationalization of Universities” audit and offers “dual career support” [aid for families with both parents in demanding jobs].
