The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of

Professor
in »History and Ethics of Medicine«

to begin as soon as possible as W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (fixed-term position for 6 years with tenure track option to a tenured W3 position) or as tenured W3 Associate/Full Professor.
Scientific environment
TUM School of Medicine is one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and in teaching. The professorship belongs to the Department of History and Ethics of Medicine.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of History and Ethics of Medicine with focus on the intersections between medicine and philosophy, medical culture and medical humanities; the historical dimensions of significant developments in medicine today; medical ethics and clinical ethics.
The teaching load includes basic study courses in medical terminology, general introduction courses for medical students ("Berufsfeldererkundung"), as well as courses in history, theory and ethics of medicine and seminars in medical ethics.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a university degree (in medicine and/or in history or philosophy) and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who has demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, regarding the relevant career level.
International scientific experience during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase is expected. The successful candidate shows pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English.
