The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany‘s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
With the recruitment of two Professors (W3) in the field of Plant Biology, the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) implements a strategic, research excellence-oriented realignment. Applications are invited for the following Chair position to be filled as soon as possible:
PROFESSOR (W3) PLANT BIOCHEMISTRY
Applicants should have an excellent profile in plant biochemistry. The successful candidate will analyze the functions of proteins and networks in primary metabolism (e.g., adaptation responses of photosynthesis) of plants and/or photosynthetic microorganisms, employing state-of-the-art methodology such as proteomics, metabolomics, application-relevant enzyme technology or high-throughput sequencing. Research will significantly strengthen the strategic research areas of the faculty, in particular "Protein Research and Bioengineering". Contributions to interdisciplinary research activities, e.g. the "Protein Research Department" and a planned grant proposal for a Graduate School "Microbial Substrate Conversion" are expected. The successful candidate will teach biochemistry, including applied green biotechnology, at all levels in the Bachelor and Master programs of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, as well as the B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biochemistry in conjunction with the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
All applicants should have international experience in research and an excellent publication record, as well as documented competitive acquisition of grants and teaching competence (i.e. positive evaluation as a junior professor, equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation), or significant post-doctoral research contributions and teaching experience). We expect that the successful candidates acquire external funding and establish close collaborations with research groups of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology and other faculties. Participation in the faculty‘s International Graduate School of Biosciences (IGB) and the RUB Research School is also expected, as well as in the self-governing bodies and university processes according to RUB‘s mission statement. The successful candidate will have access to core infrastructure and expertise, for example the faculty‘s Imaging Center, and contribute to their future development. The position is supported with core funding for personnel and a core budget.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunities employer.
Complete applications (motivation letter, curriculum vitae, brief statement on research interests and plans, lists of publications, funding and teaching record, and the five most important publications) should be sent to the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum,
Prof. Dr. M. Rögner,
