FULL PROFESSOR (W3)
at the Institute of Animal Science.
OF INTEGRATIVE INFECTION BIOLOGY
The successful candidate will teach Integrative Infection Biology Crops-Livestock in the study programs of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences both in German and in English. Teaching focus should be the majors Crop Production Systems and Animal Sciences within the study program Agricultural Sciences.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct innovative research in the interdisciplinary analysis of the structure and function of microbiomes as well as strategies of microbial pathogenesis both in crops and livestock (bidirectional transmission, possible influences). Central research questions include the significance and mechanisms of effector molecules, the comparative analysis of multifactorial infections both in plants and animals as well as the pathobiology of highly adapted, non-culturable bacterial pathogens with economic significance (phytoplasmas, hemotrophic mycoplasmas). The successful candidate has skills in the field of classical microbiology, infection biology and molecular biology (metagenomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) as well as cell biology. The offered position is designed to further promote the research focus of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, i.e. "Microbiota in farm animals". Interdisciplinary collaboration with associated research groups and the scientific centers of the University of Hohenheim is expected.
